Here at Weddings By Jess we talk a lot about making your wedding day feel like your best day yet. Too many couples have had their wedding day fly by. The wedding day goes by so fast and they wonder how the food and cake tasted. At Weddings By Jess we put a high priority on helping our couples achieve that “best day ever” feeling with intention on their wedding day. I still feel like my wedding day is the best day of my life so far. Confident, beautiful, and fearless are the three words I would use to describe how I felt on my wedding day. I focused on the goal which was to marry my amazing fiancé (now husband) and did these three things.
Three Tips To Achieving Your “Best Day Ever” Feeling
1. Incorporate meaningful items into your ceremony and reception.
Planning ahead goes a long way to helping you have a good feeling on your special day. Part of the planning includes making your ceremony and reception meaningful.
For example, my husband and I are really into prayer so it was so special to us that the pastor who married us prayed over us right before he pronounced us husband and wife. It was like he was blessing our new life together and gave us the right start.
I planned how I would walk down the aisle with intention. The fact that I was already out of my parents house and I didn’t love the traditional idea of going from my dad’s house to my husband’s house played a big part in how I decided to walk myself part of the way down the aisle.
I decided to walk myself down the aisle to start out, but then had my dad meet me at the middle of the aisle to escort me the rest of the way. That way, when the pastor asked, “Who gives this woman,” my dad was right there to answer. (I still like a little tradition and wanted to give my dad that honor).
Moments are made special when there is meaning behind them. Check out this blog post about wedding traditions. What are those moments that are important to your and your fiancé?
2. Surround yourself with people who are on your side.
Think about who you want to get ready with as you prepare for your day. Are they able to focus on you and be sensitive to the mood and feeling of the moment? Will they be helpful to you?
As you choose vendors, make sure their personalities mesh with yours. When it was time to do my hair, my hair dresser was the perfect person to hang out with at the time. She told some funny stories and had me laughing and having a good time. If she had been quiet, I probably would have sat there with my thoughts and gotten very nervous. While you are planning your wedding day, remember to plan the practical aspects of the day like planning mealtimes throughout the day. My friend and fellow wedding planner, Jami Marzano, wrote an excellent blog post about this very thing.
While you are considering wedding vendors, I would also recommend hiring an awesome wedding planner/coordinator. They help make the day go smoothly and take care of any issues that might arise on your wedding day. That way vendors and guests won’t bombard you and your family with questions while you are trying to get into the mindset of getting married and enjoying your day.
What criteria are you using to choose your vendors? How did you decide who will be getting ready with you on your wedding day?
3. Be intentional to enjoy each moment.
I encourage all my couples to eat the food, taste the cake, dance the dances, enjoy each moment. That is the very most important way to achieve that “best day ever” feeling on your wedding day.
That’s one reason why my wedding day is the best day of my life so far because I was intentional to take in each moment and not let the moments pass by in a whirlwind. I have special memories when I think about my wedding. It also makes looking at wedding photos even more special because I have so many special memories to go with them. I still love to think about my wedding and talk about it.
